Day 31 - July 15, 2009

Day 31: Love and marriage

A man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

—Genesis 2:24

TODAY’S DARE

Is there a “leaving” issue you haven’t been brave enough to conquer yet? Confess it to your spouse today, and resolve to make it right. The oneness of your marriage is dependent upon it. Follow this with a commitment to your spouse and to God to make your marriage the top priority over every other human relationship.

At one point I had used my family as sounding boards. Which I found out, the hard way, I should not have done. I believe there are several reasons why immediate family in many cases should not be involved in martial conflicts. Family, usually, can not be impartial. What hurts me, hurts them, and I can not expect them to be able to be a middle man.

As far as our martial decisions etc. My family stays out. My mom is very respectful. Actually, my mom knows how to be a better wife than I do. And she helps me figure out how I can be a better wife. My mother has respected the role of a husband being the head of a home. I have not. She is a good source for me, she knows "how to treat a man." haha

As far as "leaving" issues, I can't say I have one anymore. Here is a clip from 'Not Easily Broken' a T.D.Jakes movie, where there were serious "leaving" issues.

I decided to add something to this. Today, July 17, I am aware of my "leaving" issue. With my family I have wanted to be there for them. In my mind a good obligation. For my family, Steve and our children, it was not good at times. Though incidents have not occurred for awhile I do need to pray for this area more. I can recall one situation where I completely dropped the ball. :(
